The National Conference of Black Lawyers - D.C (NCBL-DC) is a chapter of the National Chapter of Black Lawyers,, Inc.. We have been in existence since 1975 and have championed many causes including but not limited to, championing Texas Prisoner's Rights and filing a Human Rights Complaint with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva, Switzerland. Additionally, our members have jointly and individually championed causes to address the disparate treatment of our people and others disenfranchised.
Our Mission is to serve as the legal arm of the movement for Black Liberation, to protect human rights, to achieve self-determination of Africa and African Communities in the Diaspora and to work in coalition to assist in ending oppression of all peoples.
We are always seeking lawyers specializing in all areas of law, as well as nonlawyers, law students and like-minded individuals of all ages who are dedicated to eradicating homelessness, ensuring the civil rights of all people, aiding in the struggle to right wrongs perpetrated on the less fortunate, aiding in the achievement of self-determination of people color..
"If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet deprecate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle. Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will."
Frederick Douglass
We believe that no amount of help is too little, when it is used collectively toward a common goal. No step is too small. The journey of a million miles begins with one step. No one is unimportant. It's not what you have, but rather what you are willing to give. Time, money, skills and knowledge - all welcome.
To whom who much is given, much is required. We have for far too long entrusted the responsibility for the future of our people to others. We have often reasoned that if we are personally ok everything will eventually be ok with our people as a whole. Well the time is now to change our thinking and to become active in our advancement. We must now be the change which we wish to see. Join NCBL-DC today and help make that change.
